Focusing On The Business At Hand

Hello! Today the subject is how to better focus and concentrate on our 2nd business. Those of us that are learning or working a 2nd business in our spare time, need to know how to make the best use of the little time we have available, in order to get anything accomplished.

This is an issue I have really struggled with. Often times, I have sat down here at the computer, intending to work on my business, and I allow my mind to wander off onto half a dozen other things, and before I know it, I'm out of time, and I have not accomplished anything that I needed to!

What has worked well for me is, when I first sit down, to write down what I need to do, in the order of priority, and then check off each item as it is completed. It always amazes me how much more I can get done, in less time, when I do this.

"A study published in Science magazine suggested that people spend 47% “of their waking hours thinking about something other than the activity they’re actually involved in.” What’s worse, that mental meandering makes them more unhappy than others who are able to focus on the task at hand and don’t allow their minds to wander...
... As you compose your daily to-do list, consider the number of times daily that you stray from what you set out to do. Is it because you have too many items on your to-do list, or perhaps because you didn’t accurately estimate how long it would take to accomplish each? Or is it because throughout the day you allow yourself to stray, and your mental meandering consumes valuable chunks of time that could be applied to the task at hand?"

The above quote is from an article dealing with this same issue that can be read in full right here.

"It is better to focus on what you can see than to meander after your self-interest; this also is pointless and a chasing after wind."  Ecclesiastes 6:9

The Gospel Of Grace

THE GOSPEL OF GRACE

Hello! I am going to shift gears on Thursdays from now on, and instead of discussing business matters, I will be sharing the gospel message.

Many people think they will go to Heaven because they have lived a good life. Perhaps, they treat all of their neighbors fairly, maybe they volunteer for charity work, and have never broken the law, maybe they were even baptized, or go to church regularly, but the bible, God's Word, says that no one can live up to God's standard of righteousness.

"As it is written, there is none righteous, no not one..."  Romans 3:10.

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God..."  Romans 3:23.

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."  Romans 6:23.

Salvation cannot be earned, it is a gift of God that must be received by repenting (that is, turning your life over to God), and believing that His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, died to pay the penalty for your sins on the cross.

"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."  John 3:36.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: No man cometh unto the Father, but by Me."  John 14:6.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: Not of works lest any man should boast."  Ephesians 2:8,9.

This is the gospel of grace, plain and simple. If you have not received the gift of salvation, please stop right now, and confess to God that you are a sinner in need of salvation, that you want to turn from the path you have been on, and that you believe the Lord Jesus died for your sins.

Your New Career Sign

In today's post on this blog, I want to spend some time talking about the benefits of making a midlife career change.

I said career change, but it doesn't have to be a total career change, it might be doing something part time along with what you are already doing for additional income, or maybe it is taking up a new hobby. But many of the same rules apply, whatever it is that you are considering taking up.

"Contemplation
Belief but uncommitted. You believe you should change career, but cannot get started.
Visualize yourself as a new person. How do you feel about yourself? What do you look like in your new career? How have the attitudes of those around you changed? How much more energy do you have?
Add up all the benefits. How will the reduction in stress affect your health? How will the mental stimulation and challenge improve your emotional well being? Visualize the social and economic possibilities?
Be realistic about the alternatives. How many years work do have left in you? Do you want to spend them doing what you are doing now? How will that make you feel in 5 years, 10 years, when you retire? Will you be satisfied that making no decision was the right decision? Would you rather be active in seeking your next career, or passive and wait for something to come along that might suit you? Which is more likely to be successful?"

The above quote is from a good article titled "7 Steps To Your Midlife Career Change", you can read the entire article here.

One of the questions the above article asks is: "How will the mental stimulation and challenge improve your emotional well being? This was a big surprise to me that I was not expecting. Since I started learning and doing an online marketing business, the mental stimulation and challenge has been great! Instead of dreading and fearing whether or not I could learn something new at this stage of my life, I just went for it, and it has been a real boost emotionally for me. Many times in the past I talked myself out of doing something new and different, because I was sure it would be too much for me to learn. I regret the times I did that, and I am thankful I went through with it this time. If for no other reason, this has given me the confidence that I can learn something new, and encourage others to do the same!

Greetings! The topic I want to consider tonight is self discipline, and how it relates to the self employed, who is trying to start a new business on the side, in his or her so called "spare time".

I have been learning just how difficult, but important, this subject is! There will be a lot more we can consider and learn about this subject as time goes along, but, hopefully, we can touch on a few things tonight that will be helpful.

On the blog page from June 16, we spoke about the necessity of making a plan of action (or strategy). The importance of this is that without a specific strategy to focus on, our thoughts will be all over the map, we will get distracted from what our initial goals and purposes are, we will waste time, and probably give up before we ever really get started. This is not to say there won't be the need to change our strategy from time to time, but we must stick to our game plan with determination and perseverance.

"Without discipline you wouldn't have learned how to ride a bicycle. It took self-discipline to keep wiping away the tears and climbing back on each time you fell off.

Self Discipline Gives You Success On The Job
 · Discipline is the key that unlocks the door of accomplishment
· Discipline gives you peace of mind from doing the right thing
· Discipline makes your boss, clients, and prospective employers happy. That's because they're impressed and influenced by the professional demeanor you've gained through self-control by training yourself.
· Discipline comes from practicing tasks correctly
Why self-discipline is the key ingredient in landing a job or sale
Tactics used in self-marketing and marketing a product or service are practically the same. Lead generation and networking are the key ingredient for both. It's important to recognize that your efforts to achieve employee success are highly important or you won't be motivated to do the tasks required to succeed."

The above quote is from a good article you can read in full right here

"Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase."  Proverbs 13:11.

Looking for get-rich-quick schemes is not a way to build a lasting source of income, but rather, it is earned by steady, hard work, over a period of time.

Hello! Today I plan to talk about some of the benefits of starting a home-based business, as well as explain a little bit about the online, home-based business I represent.

I was reading a good article in Forbes Magazine about the top 6 benefits of starting a home-based business. I will list the benefits, then give you the link to the article, so you can read the entire article if you like.

Home-based businesses are quickly becoming the fastest growing form of business start-ups. Growing your company out of your home allows for flexibility that is difficult when renting or buying office and warehouse space. Although working at home requires self-discipline, the benefits can be substantial - especially in the start-up years.
  1. More Work Time, Less Commute Time
  2. The Ability to Scale Up or Scale Down Quickly
  3. Deduction of Home Costs on Income Taxes
  4. Flexibility of Working Hours
  5. Reduction in Overhead Costs
  6. Allows You to Test Out Business Ideas
The Bottom Line
Starting a business from your home allows you many freedoms and flexibilities to grow your business at your own pace. It also saves money on many fronts, which helps during the often-lean start up years. Link to Forbes article

An online business that I represent is called ZNZ. This is a very simple, fun business that requires very minimal start up costs, and very little time to set up. It comes with a good training program, and is works well for either someone with no prior experience in this type of business, or an experienced marketer that might want to add to his or her online businesses. One thing that attracted me to this opportunity was that I could do the "behind the scenes" work, and the automated sales system can do the sales work.

ZNZ is not a MLM business, when someone comes into the business, you are paid a commission. They send out weekly paychecks, or you can sign up for a Paypal account, and the commission is paid immediately.

Another benefit of ZNZ is this: You can focus your advertising towards the ZNZ business, and their training and sales system refers the new business owner to other programs that work hand in hand with ZNZ. So, with no additional time on your part, you are actually promoting at least one other business opportunity! Here is the link to this opportunity: ZNZ.

Have a great day, and remember:

"This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."  Psalms 118:24

The title of this blog is "Positive Changes". The one change most positive or important in anyone's life is this: "Ye must be born again." John 3:7.

In the gospel of Luke, chapter 14, we have a story of a man that prepared a great feast, and when all things were prepared, he invited many people to come join him at his home and enjoy a great dinner at his table. He sent his servants to go out everywhere to find people and invite them to his feast.

"A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, come; for all things are now ready..... And the servant said, master, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. And the master said unto the servant, go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled."

This story illustrates the gospel message. God realizes the great need of people here on earth that are starving, that is, dead in their sins and separated from God. The great supper that God prepared is this: He sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to come down to this world, to be made in fashion as a man, to humble Himself, and to become obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Only a perfect, sinless sacrifice could have paid the penalty for our sin. Jesus lived that perfect, sinless life. Then, He willingly suffered, shed His precious blood, and was crucified on the cross. Then, after three days, God raised Him from the dead. He is now seated at God's right hand in glory, calling on every soul to believe on Him and receive Him as their personal Lord and Savior. This is what is being referred to in our story above, where it says "Come, for all things are now ready."

Indeed all things are now ready, Jesus has come down to earth, shed His blood, and died for us, and has been raised from the dead, and is alive and seated with God in Heaven. If you have not been "Born again", that is, received Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, He is bidding you to "Come (just as you are), for all things are ready".

This is the Gospel of Grace "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.Ephesians 2:8,9.

"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed...  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."  Romans 10:9-11,13.

None of us are guaranteed of tomorrow, we are not even guaranteed our next breath, please consider the importance of these words, and stop, and pray to Jesus right now, acknowledging you are a sinner in need of salvation, and that you believe that Jesus died for your sins, and, by faith, you are trusting Him now for your salvation. Once you have done this, you have the assurance of spending eternity with God in Heaven.

Thank you for taking the time to read today's blog page. For, indeed, there is not a more "Positive Change" we can make in our life than this!

Greetings to everyone,

Today I want to provide some motivation for those that want to learn something new, but need a little boost to get off the fence, and get started!

Sometimes we think we are all alone with our problems and issues and decisions we have to make in our lives, and it can be encouraging to be reminded that many things we struggle with, are the same things many others struggle with as well. To hear how someone else has dealt with a problem, or has made a positive change in their life, can inspire you to do the same. You can say to yourself, if they did it, I can too!

I hope I can be an example of this very thing. If you only new me, you would certainly say to yourself, if Dave (at 52) can start to learn about computers and start an online business, I can certainly do whatever it is I need to do!

It is so important to really enjoy whatever it is you want to start learning and doing. Otherwise, it becomes a chore and an effort, and our motivation to continue dwindles quickly. That is how it often works with a regular job, you often don't really enjoy it, but the motivation for continuing is the paycheck to keep the bill paid. But when you are starting something, maybe in your spare time, if you do not really enjoy what it is you are doing, you will give up quickly. The extra energy and time involved in doing something else above and beyond what you are already doing, especially when it usually does not bring in any substantial income for some time, requires you to really love what you are doing, so that you will stick with it.

I know that sometimes we don't know if we are going to enjoy doing something until we start learning and doing it. My advise to this would be to start anyway! You will never know until you give it a try, and if it turns out you don't like it, you can chalk that one off your list and move on to something else!

Hello!

This is my 2nd post on my new blog site, and I have some information I want to share with you that I hope will be helpful to those of you considering a mid life career change, or learning something new as a part time means of additional income. If you have not read my 1st post, please do, that will give you a little background on the purposes of this blog.

For most of us, learning a new field, and launching a new business needs to be done in our spare time, while we are still continuing our present job, because it usually takes time to start bringing in any substantial income when you are just getting started. But for those who have just lost their job, maybe from a lay-off or for health reasons, you might have more time to devote to your new business and may be able to see faster results.

A good starting point is to consider your objectives:

  1.  Do you need to choose something that will start bringing in income as soon as possible? Or, do you have time for a longer learning period from either an online course or community college, etc?
  2.  Do you enjoy the conveniences that some sort of a home-based online business might provide? Or, would you prefer to learn something that gets you outside, maybe photography, or landscape work, etc?
  3.  Or, maybe you are just considering learning a new hobby.
Here are a couple of additional tips:
  1. List down the things that you want. Before you take action, it is important that you know what your plans are. Make a list of the things that you enjoy doing. In doing this, do not only consider the things that you want but also the things that you are good at. This will help you get a clear picture of the career that you can try out.

  • Talk to other people. Talk to other people who have already done this. You might have some friends who changed their careers late in life. Ask them about the pros and cons of doing a career change. You may also get some tips that will help you in this transition.

Once you have established your objectives, and done some research, I encourage you to make a plan of action and get started! Many times through the years I have had ideas and dreams about learning different things, but for one reason or another, never followed through on them, and now regret not getting involved. I allowed fear, uncertainty, laziness, not wanting to leave my "comfort Zone", procrastination, and many other excuses, to come in and keep me from making positive, worthwhile changes in my life. Now that I have been open to learning some new things, it has given me a new and better outlook on life, and I wish I would have started this sooner! We will talk more about the excuses we come up with that hold us back, and ways of getting past them, more as time goes on.

If you are saved, a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, we have much in the scriptures to turn to for help in this area. I believe prayer is where it all needs to start. "In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths."  Proverbs 3:6. "There are many devices  (plans) in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand."  Proverbs 19:21. "Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.Psalm 37:5.

If you have not yet believed on the Lord Jesus for salvation, I pray you would consider your need of the forgiveness of sins, and believe that Jesus died to pay the penalty for your sins. He loves you, and gave Himself for you!

Thank you for taking the time to read today's post. And I hope you will continue following and sharing this with others.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this! Starting a blog page is something completely new for me. I could never have imagined doing something like this a few years ago. And, truthfully, it scares me to start something like this now, but I am determined to make some positive changes in my life, even though it means leaving my “comfort zone” and embarking on something  totally new for me!

To give a little of my background, I have been making a living as a truck driver for most of my adult life. I am 52 now, so for the most part of 34 years, that has been my profession. For about 14 years now I have been slowed down and hampered with rheumatoid arthritis. I take medication to keep it manageable, but it is slowly getting worse and worse, and I don’t know how much longer I will be able to continue driving a truck to make a living. I have known for years now that I needed to learn something new, but I was just unwilling (and afraid), to leave my “comfort zone”, even though I knew this would eventually become necessary.

One of my reasons for starting this blog page, is that I desire to encourage and motivate others to make positive changes in their lives. I plan to share information that has been helpful to me, hopefully, in an entertaining and instructive way. I know there are many others out there that have been putting off making necessary changes in their lives just like I had been.  So, hopefully you will see, that if I can do it, you can too!

As you will soon realize, I am not a professional writer. But I will try to express myself in as clear a manner as possible. Also, I would like to be as interactive as possible with those of you that follow me on this blog page. I appreciate your comments and any constructive criticism you may have. I am far from perfect, and I know there is much I can learn from all of you. I have started a twitter account and a Google+ account, along with this blog page, so I will provide my contact information at the end of this article.
I also will be explaining and promoting the online businesses that I represent.  But this will not be done in an obnoxious, high pressure sort of way. I know everyone is different, and what might be just the thing for one person, would be totally impractical for someone else. There are thousands of different opportunities out there, so I hope the articles I write will be encouraging and helpful to everyone, regardless if you are interested in anything I am personally promoting or not.
I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and I trust my Christian values and faith in God will be evident as we go along together. I believe that the Christian life can and should be incorporated into all areas of our lives, including our businesses. “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”  1 Cor. 10:31.

Well, that is probably enough to start with for my first blog. Thank you for reading this, and I hope to hear from you and develop friendships with many of you as time goes on. I am learning as I go along, and I’m sure I will make plenty of mistakes, so please bear with me. I want these blogs to be of value, as well as encouragement and motivation, to all that read them. I plan to write three or four times a week, as time allows.
